Locked In is a reflection of my mind. I have tried to recreate the feelings and stages that I’ve gone through during winter quarter of my senior year with minimal assets, only depending on the environment, sound, and lighting. Feelings that I haven’t felt before.
The title is both literal and figurative. You are locked in the room with no escape, even though there is a door, and while it is not explicitly shown, you are locked into your work as well. Not being able to escape the calls, texts, and emails of your responsibilities but not being able to answer them as well. You are stuck in every way and there seems to be no way out. As you progress through the game, things change and become more overwhelming, and just when you think you’ve made it out, it happens all over again.

I love the realistic look of the game. It uses simple textures but feels realistic. The symbolic nature of the door slightly open leading to a beautiful sight of the sky, but unable to actually obtain it. I also really liked how the character progressively gets slower as time goes on, because I feel that too. The way my energy depletes through the quarter until I just can't move. The noises and the way the scene changed too created this sense of anxiety.
I'm extremely impressed by the scale of everything in relation to the player--it's dead on, which is really hard and painstaking to do. I also genuinely thought I was losing my mind for a second when things started moving and the phone started chiming, only to revert back to its original state and become an endless loop of insanity. That, of course, fits the theme; even the sudden moves to a different scene and subsequent teleportation effect adds to the feeling of unreality despite the hyper-realistic setting. Great job!
